Bosch GLL100-40G Laser Level

The GLL100-40G was Bosch's flagship laser device for their new Green Laser Technology. This design set the standard for their entire laser product portfolio.

Situation

Bosch was beginning to implement their new Green Laser Technology, which vastly boosts visibility in challenging environments on job sites, into their laser measuring line. Through our experience in this category and field research we knew they had to overcome some tricky UX implications that laser tools carry in North America.

Process

Used to tape measures and other physical, tactile measuring tools, North American users have an inherent distrust of digital laser devices. They are also seen as fragile, many users telling us they "leave [their] lasers in the truck." To begin building that trust we emphasized a familiar form factor similar to a tape measure and built up the perceived (and real) durability.
