Bosch GNB18V-12 Concrete Nailer

Bosch's first battery-driven concrete nailer is a triumph of close collaboration between engineering, manufacturing, and design experts.

Situation

Bosch holds a strong market position in concrete tools - known as one of the highest quality brands for professional commercial construction. They approached my team to transition their highly engineered concrete nailer to a cordless, battery-driven platform to outpace with competitors.

Process

We tore down and reviewed various competitors to understand manufacturing efficiency best practices and to avoid patented mechanisms in a highly protected product category. Working closely with our manufacturing partner, this led us to a unique architecture that increased our performance compared with the market. The biggest challenge was crafting a product architecture that could contain all of these disparate engineering triumphs into a single, cohesive, and high-performing tool.
